Kururunfa is an advanced Kata brought back from China one of the original Kata taught by Ryu Ru Ko in Fuzchou in the Fukien Province of China and taught to Kanryo Higaonna and then on to Chojun Miyagi creator of Goju ryu. The original creator of this Kata is unknown. The evasive manoeuvres include Tai Subaki (shifting the body or Ultimate body evasion) and are quick, followed by slower stronger movements (Yang - hard followed by Yin -- soft and typical Goju). Its close combat, hooking blocks and grappling (Tugumi) manoeuvres are similar to other advanced Na ha te Kata such as Seisan and Sepai. The Kanji when translated could mean any of the following: Seventeen Holding your ground, Ku (long), ru (hold), run (sudden), fa (break) Forever stops Peaceful & tearing (tearing & shatter share the same Kanji as in Sai fa).
