Dear Creationists: Gravity is Only a Theory By AndroidAR Hello. The script is below. Here's the script: Whenever I hear a creationist say that evolution is only a theory, I always remind them that gravity is also a theory, and it is less understood than evolution. For instance, we know that the mechanism of evolution is DNA, which is affected by random mutation, and selected against by non-random natural selection. On the other hand, we really do not understand gravity. We do know that masses attract. But why do they attract? Are the Higgs boson and the graviton, both hypothetical particles, the cause of gravity? Let us compare gravity and evolution, shall we? Both evolution and gravity are observed facts (I will put a link in the sidebar for those silly fundamentalists who think evolution is not observed). Evolution is supported by genetics, the fossil record, taxonomy, among many other things. It is the unifying theory of biology. Gravity is similarly supported by falling apples, planetary orbits, and your mother trying to abort you by falling down the steps. However, unlike the other 3 fundamental forces (electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forces), gravity does not work well at atomic scales. In case you didn't know, the other three fundamental forces are many, many times stronger than gravity. The strong nuclear force, which holds atomic nuclei together, is 100 trillion trillion trillion times stronger than gravity. Electromagnetism, for the stupid out there, is electricity, magnetism, and light, and it is 1 trillion trillion trillion times stronger than gravity. The weak force, which is related to beta radiation, is 100 billion times weaker than electromagnetism, and is still much, much stronger than puny gravity. However, what gravity lacks in strength, it makes up for in range. On the subatomic scale, it is so weak, it is not even calculated, but on the macroscopic level, it is the ruling force. Gravity is infinite, and it interacts with everything. It can even bend space-time. Because of these traits, the Newtonian laws of physics failed to work at high speeds. They have since been replaced by Einstein's THEORY of Relativity. Yes, the rules we have for gravity are not laws at all, but theories. Does this make gravity false, since it is only a theory? Finally, unlike evolution, which so far has been able to explain pretty much every piece of evidence presented to it, our current model of gravity cannot explain certain things. For instance, the Pioneer spacecraft, on their way out of the solar system, are slowing down in a way that has yet to be explained. Spacecraft performing gravitational slingshot maneuvers have experienced much more acceleration than expected. The expansion of the universe is accelerating. If gravity fails to explain these things, is gravity wrong? So to you fundamentalists in the audience, since you hate theories so much, why do you never focus on gravity? I know why: because you know you can't do anything against it. Like evolution, gravity currently has no alternative, because like evolution, it is a FACT and you know it. EVOLUCION VS CREACIONISMO - En definitiva, los argumentos principales de los creacionistas "científicos" hacen referencia a la corta edad de la tierra, que sería de tan solo unos 6.000 años de antigüedad, haciendo caso omiso de los métodos de datación radiométricos. Además, los restos fósiles serían muy recientes y los hombres habrían coexistido con los dinosaurios. Los fósiles son atribuidos al Diluvio universal, negando los principios más básicos y elementales de la Geología: actualismo, superposición de los estratos, etc., con lo cual todos los fósiles serían prácticamente de la misma edad. Asimismo, niegan todo aspecto geológico o palentológico que pueda estar en contradicción con la Biblia y que apoye la teoría de la evolución. Especial énfasis ponen en negar el valor de los fósiles para documentar la teoría de la evolución. Así atacan los resultados paleontológicos referentes a la existencia de los fósiles intermedios, tales como el Archaeopteryx y los homínidos primitivos, negando que existan formas intermedias. Sacan fuera de contexto el debate entre gradualistas y saltacionistas, ignorando que ninguno de los grupos cuestiona la teoría de la evolución, sino que simplemente discuten aspectos del mecanismo evolutivo. Y utilizan las pequeñas diferencias de los científicos para apoyar sus sensacionales afirmaciones. Ahora bien, a lo largo de este siglo se han descubierto numerosos fósiles que permiten reconstruir muchas lineas filogenéticas, y en lo que respecta a la filogenia humana en las ultimas décadas han aparecido muchos fósiles que permiten detallar como ha sido la evolución hasta llegar al Homo sapiens. Todo lo cual permite afirmar que los fósiles son el documento fáctico de la evolución. Pero, paradójicamente, ahora los antievolucionistas insisten en que los fósiles son uno de los principales problemas para la evolución. Así pues, en realidad sus argumentos son irracionales, no son plausibles ni acordes con los datos científicos y el creacionismo "científico" constituye una de las más típicas pseudociencias. Su interpretación literal de la Biblia les conduce a una ideología de tipo apocalíptico, involucionista e integrista. Confunden sus ideas con la realidad y no parecen tener los pies sobre la Tierra sino más bien en el "Cielo". Su ignorancia y falta de rigor se pone de manifiesto en sus frecuentes afirmaciones de que en todos los campos (Paleontología, Geología, Biología, etc.) se puede ver con toda facilidad que el evolucionismo no goza de ningún apoyo científico. La vieja estrategia de responder acusando de lo mismo que se les imputa les lleva a concluir que el evolucionismo es un mito, una religión y un fraude. Afirmaciones de este tipo se encuentran constantemente en sus publicaciones, lo cual evidencia que son unos ingenuos ignorantes o que mienten(ver http://wzar.unizar.es/perso/emolina/a... ). A species that survived for over a quarter of a million years, living through and adapting to the most violent extremes of climate. A species that thrived - until modern man came along. In the second part, the advanced Cro-Magnons arrive and a new Ice Age is dawning. Neanderthal or Neandertal, is the common name given to any individual of the species Homo sapiens neanderthalensis (also known as Homo neanderthalensis), and to the entire species. Neanderthals have often been regarded as a subspecies of modern human beings (Homo sapiens sapiens or just Homo sapiens), but increasingly they are treated as a distinct species. Neanderthal remains span a timescale ranging from about 120,000 to 30,000 years ago and have been found in Middle Stone Age sites mainly in Europe and south-west Asia. The species is named after a site in the Neander River valley (German, tal, "valley") where the first skeletal remains to be recognized as belonging to this type were found. Neanderthals had long, low, thick-boned skulls, with heavy brow ridges, in contrast to the high-domed, thin-walled skulls of modern human beings. The robust, heavily muscled frames of Neanderthals, with relatively long bodies and short legs, were well adapted to their hunter-gatherer lifestyle in the often extremely cold conditions leading up to the last Ice Age. Although males were more strongly built than females, both sexes were very muscular, even as children. Neanderthals had large heads with very large projecting noses and receding chins. On average their brains were as large or larger than the average modern human brain, which was probably related more to their large body size and heavy musculature, than heightened intelligence. Although Neanderthal technology was fairly simple, there is evidence that they were capable hunters, and that they demonstrated a degree of compassion by caring for the infirm and the disabled, and by burying their dead. It has been suggested that Neanderthals practised cannibalism, but there is little substantial evidence in the archaeological record to support this theory. While some scientists believe that Neanderthals did not have the brain capacity to produce art, evidence to the contrary is slowly emerging. In 2003 a Neanderthal "mask"—a face carved from flint with bone for eyes—was found on the banks of the River Loire in France, indicating that Neanderthals may have been more sophisticated than previously thought.
