The basic "Tumbao" pattern is one of, if not the most common conga rhythm played for all types of music in 4/4. The tumbao was originally played with only one drum, the clave concept is maintained by replacing the tumba hits with bass tones on the conga. There are many variations of the basic tumbao, including playing the tumba on the 3-side of the clave(as demonstrated here). Pay close attention to hand position on the drum.
