CES 2008 SpeechGear Language Translation Software By interieurs SpeechGear is a company that is very innovative for their language translation software. They are the experts in translating nearly anything and use military technology to translate the spoken word. Having talked to them in 2007 they have came a long way with their products. I thought translating text was hard these folks take it to a whole new level. This is a series of software products that run on windows mobile operating systems or a standard windows machine. A cool new product they have introduced is called Compadre which is a series of five modules. Compadre Interact™ is the ultimate in bi-directional interactive language translation: you speak to the system, it repeats what you said in a different language. Compadre:Interpreter™ is the next generation of PDA translator, Compadre:Document™ provides quick and accurate translations of Microsoft Office files such as PowerPoint presentations and Word documents. Compadre:Camera™ translates anything you see. Any text that you can scan or take a picture of -- signs, menus, documents and more -- is translated in seconds. Compadre:Composer™ provides a common translation engine for the entire Compadre product line. This company is delivering some very cool translation software. First Light - Aaron Meyer Live By AaronMeyer Aaron Meyer is an award-winning pianist, composer, and recording artist. His versatile style fuses jazz, latin, classical, and world influences into a sound that is both energetic and inspirational. Aaron's unique sound has been described as "fresh, emotion-driven music that exemplifies a class all its own." Aaron began composing at an early age, inspired by the KCET broadcast of Yanni Live at Acropolis. Just a few years later, it was Aaron's turn to be featured on PBS in a promotional spot entitled "Inspiration Is Priceless." The short segment featuring Aaron and his music was aired throughout 2002. Later that year, coming full circle, Aaron appeared on KCET with Yanni. With four albums and countless performances under his belt, Aaron has established himself as one of the most promising up and coming artists in the contemporary music scene. In 2005, Aaron and his band performed a benefit concert for Spotlight the Arts entitled "Meyer @ The Mayer." This concert was filmed for CTV, and the special aired on cable for several months. As a solo artist, Aaron has performed in numerous venues throughout California, including the Madrid Theatre, Louis B. Mayer Theater, and Stanford's Dinkelspiel Auditorium. He has also performed for such notable organizations as Barnes & Noble, The American Lung Association, Oneness and Spotlight the Arts. Over the years, Aaron has had the privilege of performing for a variety of distinguished personalities such as Wink Martindale, Wolfgang Puck, Tom Poston, Susan Sullivan, and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Aaron's newest CD, After Hours, was released in June 2008. A fun-filled album performed by a talented ensemble of 25 musicians, this new release promises to be Aaron's most successful venture to date. From the piano and cello duet "Contemplation," to the funk-influenced "Celebration," and the latin-flavored "Fiesta," Aaron's newest music has broad appeal to people of all ages and cultures. Aaron received his B.A. in Music Composition from Stanford University and resides in Los Angeles. Heiner Goebbels. European Graduate School Lecture. 2007. 9/9 By egsvideo http://www.egs.edu/ Heiner Goebbels, German composer and music director talking about composing for directors, theatres, operas, theatre plays, performances; discussing his life, stories, work, professional and artistic experiences as well as the concepts of sound, noise, acoustic space, Berthold Brecht, separation of elements, change of formats, Elias Canetti, Eraritjaritjaka. Public open lecture with students of the European Graduate School EGS, Media and Communication Studies department program, Saas-Fee, Switzerland, Europe, 2007. Heiner Goebbels. Heiner Goebbels, born August 17 1952, studied Sociology and Music in Frankfurt/Main, is a composer notable for his mixture of styles, drawing from sources as varied as classical music, jazz, and rock music. He started playing Eislerian music in a duo with saxophonist Alfred Harth and composing music for theatre, film, and ballet, and has continued to do so, although he has since then broadened his repertoire to concerts and his oeuvre has recently come to include the opera Landschaft mit entfernten Verwandten (Landscape with Distant Relatives, 2002). Goebbels co-founded the avant-garde rock group Cassiber (1982--1992) with Harth, Chris Cutler and Christoph Anders. They toured extensively across Europe, Asia and North America, and made five albums. Much of his better known work, however, originated from his close collaboration with the East German writer Heiner Müller, resulting in stage compositions as well as shorter pieces (concerts as well as audio plays) loosely based on Müller texts, such as Verkommenes Ufer (Waste Shore, 1984), Die Befreiung des Prometheus (The Liberation of Prometheus, 1985), or Wolokolamsker Chaussee (Volokolamsk Highway, 1989). Goebbels' attempts to fill the space between theatre and opera left blank due to traditional genre borderline drawing has led to projects such as Schwarz auf Weiss (Black on White, 1996) or Die Wiederholung (The Repetition, 1997). The political nature of his work is often referred to by critics. His interest in Heiner Müller can partly be explained by the political character of Müller's texts, as may be the case with his interest in Bertolt Brecht and Hanns Eisler, works by the latter he used in composing his staged concert Eislermaterial (1998). Goebbels' work is being increasingly acknowledged as he is being played and staged around the world and as his recordings are being published. His Surrogate Cities, a work for big orchestra dating from 1994 and featuring texts from Paul Auster, Heiner Müller, and Hugo Hamilton, was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Classical Contemporary Composition at the 43rd Grammy Awards in 2001. His Eislermaterial won him another Grammy nomination at the 46th Grammy Awards in 2004, this time in the category Best Small Ensemble Performance (with or without conductor). In recent years Heiner Goebbels enjoyed the privilege of several guest professorships and nominations for composer-in-residence.
