A Bulbdial Clock on the window sill http://bulbdial.com/ One minute in the life of a bulbdial clock, sitting on our window sill on a partly cloudy day. This is an "indoor sundial" clock that has three rings of LEDs that create shadow hands of different length on the clock face. While the camera doesn't capture it very well, the spots of light cast by the ultrabright LEDs are brilliant red, green, and blue. Fire extinguisher striking clock This is my fire extinguisher striking clock in action. It looks a bit Al-qaedian but it just strikes the time like any regular bell striking clock. The fire extinguisher must be a CO2 type. Other types of extinguishers do not sound this good. Schematic is based on Arduino and is available together with the building instructions at http://www.5volt.eu Just be careful as to where you display your clock. Also, remember that fire extinguishers are safety devices : never impair their accessibility or use. MSP430 Bedside Table Alarm Clock Hi, like everyone else, I finally built an alarm clock for my bedside table using an MSP430 which came with the TI Launchpad. To get hold of the low pin count, I used a 74HC164 shift register for port expansion. Thus two pins of the MSP430 are used as shift register clock and data yielding eight outputs for the anodes of the 7-segment (plus decimal point) digits. Another four pins of the MSP430 are used to time-multiplex the four common-cathode digits, using a variable time per digit depending on the LED count, the digit is using. This is done to get the digits equally bright. The remaining two pins of the MSP430 are connected to push buttons for user interaction -- one pin serving double as input and output when playing the alarm tune. A simple finite state machine is used for the control logic. I found the available 2048 bytes of program memory a bit sparse, needing to rewrite code sometimes to get a lower memory footprint. The program plus the data for the tune now use even the last available byte. DIY LED CLOCK This is a clock made of DIY seven segment display. Every segment is made of 3 blue LEDs so I got a pretty big size display. I used a ATMega328 micro-controller with arduino bootloader and for the time I used a real time clock IC. This is not the final version I still need to put it in a nice case and hide all the wires. The clock has a function for showing date and setting time manually. Wanna make one? LED Hard Drive Clock Demo This is a hard drive clock I built from a 3.5" hard drive, some tri-color LEDs and a PIC16F252 microcontroller. It works by shining the LEDs underneath a platter with a slot cut into it, and by timing the various colors it can produce an analog clock display as well as other patterns.
