Evacuazione di massa quella in atto a Maierato, paese di 2300 abitanti in provincia di Vibo Valentia, dove lunedì un intero costone della montagna a ridosso del centro è franato mettendo in pericolo le case. Le prime 300 persone sono state allontanate dalle loro abitazioni già lunedì sera e martedì mattina è cominciato lo sgombero di tutto il paese. Più di 200 persone sono state sistemate nella scuola di polizia di Vibo. Un'altra novantina di persone sarà sistemata nel palazzetto dello sport di Vibo. Altri saranno portati nel palazzetto dello sport di Monte Poro che può ospitare 4-500 persone, ma molti degli evacuati hanno già trovato assistenza a casa di parenti e amici. Tonnellate di terra coprono quella che fino a ieri era una vallata. Il costone ha sfiorato decine di abitazioni, mettendo a rischio anche gli edifici che si trovano alla sommità e che potrebbero scivolare a valle nel caso in cui la frana riprendesse a muoversi. Un rischio concreto, visto che ha ripreso a piovere con una certa insistenza. La frana ha un fronte di un paio di chilometri: ha travolto strade e acquedotto, tanto che il paese è completamente privo di acqua. "Con Maierato sta franando l'intera Calabria. Non è un'esagerazione e neppure una novità poiché sono recenti le lacrime per altri disastri naturali", è l'allarme del presidente della Calabria Agazio Loiero che sta seguendo l'emergenza con la task force della Protezione civile e i dipartimenti dell'Ambiente e dei Lavori pubblici. Loiero ha convocato una riunione straordinaria della Giunta per dichiarare lo stato di calamità naturale e coinvolgere il governo negli interventi immediati a favore delle popolazioni evacuate e nei progetti di ricostruzione. "La Regione ha varato un programma di 800 milioni di euro individuando una serie di priorità. - spiega - È una cifra enorme che però non è sufficiente per la realtà del territorio. Basterebbe occuparsi di queste catastrofi naturali piuttosto che del ponte sullo Stretto". This is most evident when you look at attempts in the first month and a half: all of the post-blowout efforts have been focused on SAVING the well; it was only after more than a month before BP attempted "TOPKILL", which would have sealed the well. Lastly, US District Judge Martin Feldman, who overturned the temporary drilling ban on June 22, owns investments in Ocean Energy (Houston-based), Quicksilver Resources, Prospect Energy, Peabody Energy, Halliburton, Pengrowth Energy Trust, Atlas Energy Resources, Parker Drilling and others.
