Visit http://www.painteddesigns.nl In July 2007, I received an email from Lew Wood, the actor who appears in this commercial. He tells: I am the guy tha D-D-B chose to be the spokesman for that famous "Floating VW" TV commercial in June , 1972. My name is Lew Wood, and I was doing commercials and V/O's in NYC when I was booked for the job. We shot it at a launching ramp in Stamford, CT on LI Sound. The production crew was Horn-Greiner. Director Norm Greiner. D-D-B's creative director was Tom Yobaggy. And even Mr. Bernbach was on the location! They hired a stuntman to drive the VW into the water. However, Norm Greiner suddenly woke up to the fact that I had to deliver that last line "Now, what other car gives you this kind of quality at this kind of price?" from the car! I said, "Norm, I'm a sailor, I'm at home on the water. I'll drive it in!" I splashed it three times. (We used three identical Beetles, all burnt orange in color. Splashed two of them alternately, the third never got wet and was used for "beauty shots." Swimmers went in to tow them back to shore after each take. We all thought our commercial would win the "Clio" that year, but the "Snowplow" commercial took the prize. However, the residuals were nice! After many years of searching for a 1972 Super Beetle in burnt orange with NO RUST, I finally found one a few years ago in Vista, CA, and snapped it up. I now proudly drive around town frequently and get admiring looks. Now, you know "the rest of the story!" This commercial has a surprise in it. At the and you can watch a beetle being driven into the water. Funny is the text in the commercial says: allthough the beetle does definately float, it will not float indefinately. Fun! Butterfly Sounds? Zebra Honey Bee Red Beetle Butterfly Weed By IrenaScott Video shows a zebra swallowtail butterfly at a butterfly weed. Some interesting sounds can be heard. It is unknown if they are sounds from the butterfly or background sounds. Maybe they are the world's first recorded butterfly sounds. Honeybees and a red milkweed beetle are also shown with the butterfly weed. The zebra swallowtail is one of the most beautiful butterflies known. It is the only native kite swallowtail. Also shown is a red milkweed beetle, another beautiful insect. The Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly (Eurytides Marcellus) is a swallowtail butterfly found in the US Its distinctive black and white-striped pattern is resembles a zebras color pattern. The common pawpaw tree is the only host for the larva of the Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly. The Zebra Swallowtail has triangular wings having long tails. It has black and white stripe-like markings on its wings and small red and blue markings on both bottom corners of the wings. It can have a wingspan of 4 inches. When it flies, it gives the appearance of flying backwards. Butterfly weed Asclepias tuberosa is a beautiful member of the milkweed family that attracts butterfly. Its brilliant orange flowers are very distinctive. Its long taproot makes it difficult to transplant. Honeybees Apis mellifera also love butterfly weed. Honeybees are genius insects. Also shown is a one of a type of red milkweed beetle possibly Tetraopes tetraophthalmus. They are brilliant blood red with black spots. 1972 VW Beetle Kever By DQ81 This is my 1972 VW Beetle/Kever with a standard 1300cc engine rated at 44Bhp. So far I've done my best to get it to run right. When I bought it it had been stalled in a shed for 19 years! It hadn't run all that time so I had to replace the fuel pump, the coil, rebuild the carb and more only to find out that my third cylinders burns oil, sometimes more than others. The compression in cylinder 3 is also 1.5 bar less than the other three that are all allmost 11 bar!!! Cosmetically I haven't done much yet; I replaced the standard bumpers with "American style" bumpers front and back, added the headlight covers and installed a adjustable front axle. I've yet to sort out the tires I want and touch up the rust. I also have new beading to replace the current beading that's was painted white by the PO. After these few things are done I'll be installing a 2.0ltr Subaru Legacy engine (EJ20). More vids once that gets under way.
