SPIRAL ENTEROSCOPY AND ARGON PLASMA LASER THERAPY OF AVM CHRISTOS KARALIS MD .wmv Examination and therapeutic interventions on the small intestine have been difficult and challenging for interventional gastroenterologists. In the last few years, significant advances have been made in this direction. New diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for visualizing the small intestine have been introduced like the endoscopic capsule the double balloon enteroscopy and lately the spiral enteroscopy. Furthermore, increased indications for small-bowel imaging and therapeutics have been recognized. Spiral enteroscopy is the latest method of small bowel visualisation and examination that allows deep penetration of the small intestine and intervention using all the standard methods of therapy. The following video is from a patient with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (melena) and decreased hematocrit who had a negative endoscopy and colonoscopy. Spiral enteroscopy was performed and an arteriovenous malformation of the third portion of the duodenum was found and cauterized using argon plasma laser therapy. Η μέθοδος εντεροσκόπησης με τον περιστρεφόμενο κοχλία (spiral enteroscopy), επιτρέπει την εν τω βάθη γρήγορη και εύκολη εισαγωγή του εντεροσκοπίου στο λεπτό έντερο, καθιστώντας δυνατή την χρήση όλων των γνωστών τεχνικών θεραπευτικής επέμβασης του ανώτερου πεπτικού. Το βίντεο που ακολουθεί, είναι από ασθενή με αιμορραγία ανώτερου πεπτικού με την μορφή μελαίνων κενώσεων και αρνητική γαστροσκόπηση και κολονοσκόπηση. Έγινε εντεροσκόπηση με την μέθοδο του κοχλία και ευρέθη αγγειοδυσπλασία στην τρίτη μοίρα του δωδεκαδακτύλου, η οποία και καυτηριάστηκε με argon plasma laser. Record Power Level For The VASIMR VX-200i, HD This is a record power level test firing in a series of experiments with the VASIMR VX-200 plasma rocket prototype. The rocket's 1st stage (a Helicon plasma source) was fired at 30 kW using a state-of-the-art solid state RF power supply, and the rocket's 2nd stage was fired at 149 kW using a second solid state RF power supply. Argon gas was used as the propellant, and gives a distinctive purple/blue/UV glow. The second half of the video is slowed down to 1/10 speed during the firing of the second stage. The plasma diagnostics that can be seen in this video are situated on an x-y motion stage capable of moving side to side 200cm and in an out 500cm with 0.5mm precision. Because of the extreme temperatures and heating within the plasma exhaust, the diagnostics are all constructed out of refractory metals, high temperature ceramics, or graphite (or all three). The rocket and everything else seen in this video is located within a vacuum chamber, used to simulate the vacuum environment of space.
