[View \| Download]	Fedor meets Wanderlei Silva, Old hand injury, You don't pick on Fedor in training By catchdarainbow Wanderlei Silva noticed the small bandage on Fedor's hand. Fedor explains that his injury was first diagnosed following the Gary Goodridge fight back at Total Elimination in 2003. The diagnosis by the PRIDE medical team was incorrect at the time and healed incorrectly. In 2005 he undertook surgery following his bout with Zuluzinho having broken his Thumb Metacarpal. -May 2008. Fedor finished his study as a student of chair of Physical Training at Belgorod State University. It's understandable that Fedor's schedule wouldn't let him graduate as quickly as other students normally do. The topic of his thesis was "Methodology of physical skills' development training for 13-15 year old Sambo practitioners". Fedor may get to use his college education and experience at the still in construction Academy of Fedor Emelianenko in Belgorod to coach professional fighers. Fedor was 12 when he started training grappling under Vladimir Voronov, who remains his trainer to this day. For 20 years Voronov has been as much a part of Fedor's life off the mat as on it. Fedor (teenager) aspired to join the Russian national team. He didn't partake in life's pleasures but instead spent all of his time studying and training. Two factors were constant in his life then: a lack of money and the presence of his family and team. Frequently there wasn't enough money for food. Fedor and his brother Aleksander were constantly growing and training, and their mouths were not the smallest to feed. The food Olga Emelianenko grew in her makeshift garden was often not enough, and come winter a garden was impossible. "My mother not only loves me as a son," Fedor has proudly said, "but respects me as a person." Voronov pitched in, dropping off bags of grain or potatoes. The harder life became, the closer Fedor and his family and his team grew. The more they depended on each other's existence, the less money mattered. -Following his return from the army, Fedor once again fell into serious training with the Russian national sambo and judo teams, but there was not enough to eat, no money for uniforms or shoes. -He had married his childhood sweetheart, Oksana, near the mats and in front of Voronov and his team at the Vladimir Nevsky Club,the gym where he had trained since he was 11. The trainer helped the young couple renovate their small temporary flat while they waited impatiently for the arrival of their daughter, Mashenka, and their first studio apartment that the city would give them. "In the army I was never disrespectful, never cocky, though I could always stand up for myself,". "And I always tried to help those younger than me. I did have to fight a lot but only at the very start." The problems with compensation for athletes worsened.During this time Fedor was accepted onto both the Russian national sambo and judo teams. Though he was representing his country, he had no income. The fighters were thankful for any opportunity to work and feed their families. With no future or prospects of doing what he loved doing, Fedor tentatively turned to MMA as a way out. After much trepidation he floated the idea of fighting in the sport with his trainer. Voronov was not against it, thinking that Fedor would be able to handle himself in MMA. Leaving the Russian judo and sambo teams for the totally unknown, with no certain future, was an immensely hard decision. But with the blessings of his wife and trainer, Fedor stepped into the ring. -Not surprisingly Fedor is known very well in Stary Oskol. Every taxi driver, shopkeeper and hotel receptionist has a story about him. All praise his humility, with some saying he is the most humble person they know. ... PART OF FEDOR's HISTORY. [View \| Download]	The Bolshoi Ballet - "Paquita" Grand pas classique w/ Zakharova -4/6 By mrlopez2681 4/6 of Yuri Burlaka's reconstruction of the Grand Pas classique from "Paquita" for the Bolshoi Ballet. November 17, 2008. Moscow, Russia. 1. Variation danced by Yekaterina Shipulina. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1903). Variation for Anna Pavlova. Taken from Petipa's 1868 ballet "Le Roi Candaule", which the Ballet Master revived in 1891 for Carlotta Brianza, with Cesare Pugni's score refurbished by Drigo. The ballet combined Plutarch & Herodotus's telling of how the Shepherd Gyges took the throne of the Kingdom of Lydia from King Candaules via his Queen, Nyssia. In the context of the full-length ballet, this solo was performed during the ballet's celebrated bathing scene where Queen Nyssia dances to the sounds of her slave's harp. For some reason the Bolshoi has re-orchestrated the music so that the strings are more pronounced, but it is still heard in Drigo's original orchestration in the Mariinsky's staging. Interestingly, this solo also turns up in the Vaganova School's rarely seen "La Sylphide" pas de deux. 2. Variation danced by Yekaterina Krysanova. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1902). Variation for Olga Preobrajenskaya (?). Taken from the Ballet Master Achille Coppini's 1902 staging of the ballet "La Source" for the Imperial Ballet. This solo is - I believe - taken from a Grand pas de deux that I know Drigo wrote for the ballet, which is still performed on occasion by the Vaganova School during thier graduation performances under the title "The Stream" Pas de deux. The music is often incorrectly credited to Delibes. 3. Variation danced by Natalia Osipova. Music by Ludwig Minkus (1869). Modern dancers & balletomanes will recognize this variation as being taken from "Don Quixote", but it is nowhere to be found in the original 5 act piano reduction of Minkus's score. The Bolshoi's program credits this variation as being taken from Jules Perrot's 1855 grand ballet "Armida". Since Cesare Pugni wrote the score for that work it is likely that this variation was written by Minkus ad hoc much later. Whatever the case, Perrot's "Armida" was a dismal failure & did not last long in the repertory of the Imperial Ballet, so it makes me wonder if they have credited this solo correctly. 4. Variation danced by Mariana Ryzhkina. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1901). Variation for Pierina Legnani. When the great Pierina Legnani gave her final performance in Russia in 1901 before retiring to her native Italy, she performed in Lev Ivanov's revival of Petipa's 1872 ballet "La Camargo". Drigo wrote this variation especially for Legnani's performance. In the annals of ballet history Legnani's final performance in "La Camargo is legendary - on that evening the ballerina demonstrated just why she was the first to obtain the offical title of 'Prima ballerina assoluta'. "La Camargo" told the story of how the great 18th century dancer Marie Camargo & her sister Madeleine were abducted for one night by the Comte de Melun. It was very appropriate for the greatest ballerina of the late 19th century to give her farewell performance as the greatest ballerina of the 18th century! 5. Variation danced by Anna Antonicheva. Music by Riccardo Drigo (circa 1888). Variation for Maria Gorshenkova. This is yet another of Drigo's supplemental pieces for Petipa's revival of "Le Roi Candaule". **The variations - I have tried my best to identify the origins of all of the variations that are included in the Bolshoi Ballet's reconstruction of the "Paquita" Grand pas classique. I have utilized my complete piano reduction of the pas, as well as the répétiteur for two violins of the Imperial Ballet's production of the full-length "Paquita" that was created circa 1900 (this répétiteur can be found in the archives of Harvard University's Theatre Collection as part of the Sergeyev Collection). If anyone notices errors or has any questions, please contact me! All of the different versions of the Grand pas classique that are performed throughout the world today typically contain various combinations of about 13 possible variations (& sometimes more!). It is important to note that the majority of these variations are all that remain in active performance of whichever 19th century Grand Ballet they were extracted from, & many of them were arranged especially for some of the greatest dancers of the late 19th & early 20th centuries. Unfortunately most ballet companies have no clue that these solos are really valueable little pieces of ballet history in themselves, & all to often know nothing of thier history. The Bolshoi are performing the Grand pas classique in the old way by allowing the ballerinas to pick their favorite variations. Thus, a performance will only contain 7 out of 11 possible solos. In light of this, I have spliced together 2 different performances in order to show all of the variations for completness. I was even forced to add in a variation from a Russian news-cast since it was not performed on my DVDs! --ENJOY!! Music by Ludwig Minkus (1892). Variation for Anna Johansson. This solo was written especially for Anna Johansson's performance in Petipa's 1892 revival of "La Naïade et le Pêcheur" (originally staged in 1843 by Jules Perrot as "Ondine, ou La Naïade"). Anna Johansson was the daughter of the legendary Danish teacher Christian Johansson, who danced & later taught in St. Petersburg for many years. In the Soviet era this variation found its way into "The Little Humpbacked Horse", & has often been incorrectly credited to Cesare Pugni. 2. Variation danced by Anna Leonova. Music by Alexei Papkov. Variation for Alexandra Shapashnikova. There are many versions of the "Paquita" Grand pas classique that assign the music of this variation to the lead male of the pas, but it is actually for a woman. The origins of the variation are unknown to me - the Bolshoi credits this variation to Minkus in their souvenir program of the "Paquita" Grand pas classique, & my piano score also credits Minkus. The violin répétiteur of the Imperial Ballet's production of the full-length "Paquita" (created circa 1900) credits the variation to a composer named Papkov, who was the main ballet conductor in St. Petersburg until he was replaced by Riccardo Drigo in the 1880s (interestingly, Papkov is also the real composer of Cupid's solo in "Don Quixote"!) This variation was created for Alexandra Shaposhnikova, the wife of the legendary danseur Pavel Gerdt. 3. Variation danced by Maria Alexandrova. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1892). Variation for Vavara Nikitina. When Petipa revived Filippo Taglioni's original 1832 "La Sylphide" at the Mariinsky in 1892, this variation was arranged especially for Vavara Nikitina, who danced the lead. Today it is considered to be more or less the "traditional" solo for the lead ballerina of the "Paquita" Grand pas classique. 4. Variation danced by Nadezhda Gracheva. Music by Yuli Gerber (1870). This variation is taken from Petipa's ballet "Trilby". Another variation taken from this ballet is the male variation from "Le Corsaire" pas de deux. [View \| Download]	Fedor meets Wanderlei Silva, Old hand injury, You don't pick on Fedor in training By catchdarainbow Wanderlei Silva noticed the small bandage on Fedor's hand. Fedor explains that his injury was first diagnosed following the Gary Goodridge fight back at Total Elimination in 2003. The diagnosis by the PRIDE medical team was incorrect at the time and healed incorrectly. In 2005 he undertook surgery following his bout with Zuluzinho having broken his Thumb Metacarpal. -May 2008. Fedor finished his study as a student of chair of Physical Training at Belgorod State University. It's understandable that Fedor's schedule wouldn't let him graduate as quickly as other students normally do. The topic of his thesis was "Methodology of physical skills' development training for 13-15 year old Sambo practitioners". Fedor may get to use his college education and experience at the still in construction Academy of Fedor Emelianenko in Belgorod to coach professional fighers. Fedor was 12 when he started training grappling under Vladimir Voronov, who remains his trainer to this day. For 20 years Voronov has been as much a part of Fedor's life off the mat as on it. Fedor (teenager) aspired to join the Russian national team. He didn't partake in life's pleasures but instead spent all of his time studying and training. Two factors were constant in his life then: a lack of money and the presence of his family and team. Frequently there wasn't enough money for food. Fedor and his brother Aleksander were constantly growing and training, and their mouths were not the smallest to feed. The food Olga Emelianenko grew in her makeshift garden was often not enough, and come winter a garden was impossible. "My mother not only loves me as a son," Fedor has proudly said, "but respects me as a person." Voronov pitched in, dropping off bags of grain or potatoes. The harder life became, the closer Fedor and his family and his team grew. The more they depended on each other's existence, the less money mattered. -Following his return from the army, Fedor once again fell into serious training with the Russian national sambo and judo teams, but there was not enough to eat, no money for uniforms or shoes. -He had married his childhood sweetheart, Oksana, near the mats and in front of Voronov and his team at the Vladimir Nevsky Club,the gym where he had trained since he was 11. The trainer helped the young couple renovate their small temporary flat while they waited impatiently for the arrival of their daughter, Mashenka, and their first studio apartment that the city would give them. "In the army I was never disrespectful, never cocky, though I could always stand up for myself,". "And I always tried to help those younger than me. I did have to fight a lot but only at the very start." The problems with compensation for athletes worsened.During this time Fedor was accepted onto both the Russian national sambo and judo teams. Though he was representing his country, he had no income. The fighters were thankful for any opportunity to work and feed their families. With no future or prospects of doing what he loved doing, Fedor tentatively turned to MMA as a way out. After much trepidation he floated the idea of fighting in the sport with his trainer. Voronov was not against it, thinking that Fedor would be able to handle himself in MMA. Leaving the Russian judo and sambo teams for the totally unknown, with no certain future, was an immensely hard decision. But with the blessings of his wife and trainer, Fedor stepped into the ring. -Not surprisingly Fedor is known very well in Stary Oskol. Every taxi driver, shopkeeper and hotel receptionist has a story about him. All praise his humility, with some saying he is the most humble person they know. ... PART OF FEDOR's HISTORY. November 17, 2008. Moscow, Russia. 1. Variation danced by Yekaterina Shipulina. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1903). Variation for Anna Pavlova. Taken from Petipa's 1868 ballet "Le Roi Candaule", which the Ballet Master revived in 1891 for Carlotta Brianza, with Cesare Pugni's score refurbished by Drigo. The ballet combined Plutarch & Herodotus's telling of how the Shepherd Gyges took the throne of the Kingdom of Lydia from King Candaules via his Queen, Nyssia. In the context of the full-length ballet, this solo was performed during the ballet's celebrated bathing scene where Queen Nyssia dances to the sounds of her slave's harp. For some reason the Bolshoi has re-orchestrated the music so that the strings are more pronounced, but it is still heard in Drigo's original orchestration in the Mariinsky's staging. Interestingly, this solo also turns up in the Vaganova School's rarely seen "La Sylphide" pas de deux. 2. Variation danced by Yekaterina Krysanova. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1902). Variation for Olga Preobrajenskaya (?). Taken from the Ballet Master Achille Coppini's 1902 staging of the ballet "La Source" for the Imperial Ballet. This solo is - I believe - taken from a Grand pas de deux that I know Drigo wrote for the ballet, which is still performed on occasion by the Vaganova School during thier graduation performances under the title "The Stream" Pas de deux. The music is often incorrectly credited to Delibes. 3. Variation danced by Natalia Osipova. Music by Ludwig Minkus (1869). Modern dancers & balletomanes will recognize this variation as being taken from "Don Quixote", but it is nowhere to be found in the original 5 act piano reduction of Minkus's score. The Bolshoi's program credits this variation as being taken from Jules Perrot's 1855 grand ballet "Armida". Since Cesare Pugni wrote the score for that work it is likely that this variation was written by Minkus ad hoc much later. Whatever the case, Perrot's "Armida" was a dismal failure & did not last long in the repertory of the Imperial Ballet, so it makes me wonder if they have credited this solo correctly. 4. Variation danced by Mariana Ryzhkina. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1901). Variation for Pierina Legnani. When the great Pierina Legnani gave her final performance in Russia in 1901 before retiring to her native Italy, she performed in Lev Ivanov's revival of Petipa's 1872 ballet "La Camargo". Drigo wrote this variation especially for Legnani's performance. In the annals of ballet history Legnani's final performance in "La Camargo is legendary - on that evening the ballerina demonstrated just why she was the first to obtain the offical title of 'Prima ballerina assoluta'. "La Camargo" told the story of how the great 18th century dancer Marie Camargo & her sister Madeleine were abducted for one night by the Comte de Melun. It was very appropriate for the greatest ballerina of the late 19th century to give her farewell performance as the greatest ballerina of the 18th century! 5. Variation danced by Anna Antonicheva. Music by Riccardo Drigo (circa 1888). Variation for Maria Gorshenkova. This is yet another of Drigo's supplemental pieces for Petipa's revival of "Le Roi Candaule". **The variations - I have tried my best to identify the origins of all of the variations that are included in the Bolshoi Ballet's reconstruction of the "Paquita" Grand pas classique. I have utilized my complete piano reduction of the pas, as well as the répétiteur for two violins of the Imperial Ballet's production of the full-length "Paquita" that was created circa 1900 (this répétiteur can be found in the archives of Harvard University's Theatre Collection as part of the Sergeyev Collection). If anyone notices errors or has any questions, please contact me! All of the different versions of the Grand pas classique that are performed throughout the world today typically contain various combinations of about 13 possible variations (& sometimes more!). It is important to note that the majority of these variations are all that remain in active performance of whichever 19th century Grand Ballet they were extracted from, & many of them were arranged especially for some of the greatest dancers of the late 19th & early 20th centuries. Unfortunately most ballet companies have no clue that these solos are really valueable little pieces of ballet history in themselves, & all to often know nothing of thier history. The Bolshoi are performing the Grand pas classique in the old way by allowing the ballerinas to pick their favorite variations. Thus, a performance will only contain 7 out of 11 possible solos. In light of this, I have spliced together 2 different performances in order to show all of the variations for completness. Music by Ludwig Minkus (1892). Variation for Anna Johansson. This solo was written especially for Anna Johansson's performance in Petipa's 1892 revival of "La Naïade et le Pêcheur" (originally staged in 1843 by Jules Perrot as "Ondine, ou La Naïade"). Anna Johansson was the daughter of the legendary Danish teacher Christian Johansson, who danced & later taught in St. Petersburg for many years. In the Soviet era this variation found its way into "The Little Humpbacked Horse", & has often been incorrectly credited to Cesare Pugni. 2. Variation danced by Anna Leonova. Music by Alexei Papkov. Variation for Alexandra Shapashnikova. There are many versions of the "Paquita" Grand pas classique that assign the music of this variation to the lead male of the pas, but it is actually for a woman. The origins of the variation are unknown to me - the Bolshoi credits this variation to Minkus in their souvenir program of the "Paquita" Grand pas classique, & my piano score also credits Minkus. The violin répétiteur of the Imperial Ballet's production of the full-length "Paquita" (created circa 1900) credits the variation to a composer named Papkov, who was the main ballet conductor in St. Petersburg until he was replaced by Riccardo Drigo in the 1880s (interestingly, Papkov is also the real composer of Cupid's solo in "Don Quixote"!) This variation was created for Alexandra Shaposhnikova, the wife of the legendary danseur Pavel Gerdt. 3. Variation danced by Maria Alexandrova. Music by Riccardo Drigo (1892). Variation for Vavara Nikitina. When Petipa revived Filippo Taglioni's original 1832 "La Sylphide" at the Mariinsky in 1892, this variation was arranged especially for Vavara Nikitina, who danced the lead.
