He finds himself struggling to survive in the wilderness. Benji observes a female cougar gunned down by a hunter. He attempts to comfort the dying animal, but he is chased away by the hunter. He eventually encounters four orphaned cougar cubs, belonging to the killed cougar, and he attempts to shield them from predation. In one of the film's more tragic scenes, one of the cubs is carried off by an eagle. Benji later tries to catch up with a female cougar he encountered earlier with the intention of leaving the three remaining cubs in her care. Benji was saved by a helicopter. Yep. 82 years ago today, November 18, 1928, Walt Disney's "first" star, Mickey Mouse made his theatrical debut in "Steamboat Willie", the first-ever synchronized sound cartoon, at the Broadway theater in New York City. So to celebrate the birthday of everyone's favorite mouse, this is a special newly recorded soundtrack to the opening of "Steamboat Willie." (Introduced by Walt Disney, himself), then as the music ends, Walt introduces "The Skeleton Dance", the first Silly Symphony cartoon. This is from the Disneyland episode, "The Story of the Animated Drawing", originally aired on ABC in 1955. It is available on Walt Disney Treasures: Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studio. Why I put "first" in quotation marks is because Mickey was NOT Walt's first star. We had Alice, then Oswald, THEN Mickey. Mickey was Walt's first HUGE star, but not his absolute first. Enjoy!
