Up to 40 per cent of Australian women now buy bras with a cup size of DD or higher, new figures from lingerie suppliers show. In the 1950s, the most common bra-cup size was a B - three sizes less than a DD. Modern breasts are getting so large that some bra companies have introduced cup sizes as high as K, The Sunday Telegraph reports. Experts blame the cleavage boost on obesity, contraceptive pills and artificial hormones. Myer lingerie buyer Kerryn Sawyer said sales of DD-plus bras have grown from about 20 per cent of sales to 28 per cent in just five years. Many lingerie labels such as Berlei and Triumph are now offering G cups while Fayreform, Freya and Le Mystere are producing select styles up to a size J. Berlei brand manager Jane Edser said the company's range of bra styles, available in DD-plus, had, increased since 2005 from 75 per cent to 83 per cent, to cater for the growing market. Bra company Eveden Australia launched a K cup into the market last year. The company's fitting specialist, Victoria Jubb, said obesity contributed significantly to the expanding chest sizes but the number of small-figured women with large breasts was on the increase. "We're noticing a lot more girls with small backs and bigger bust sizes being fitted," she said. Eveden's top-selling size is a 10G. As women's chests have grown, the number of breast reductions have doubled in the past decade, said cosmetic surgeon Mark Goyen. "There's definitely been an increase," said Dr Goyen, who runs Sydney surgery the Alia Clinic. "I was doing about 10 to 15 female breast reductions a year, now I'm doing 20 to 30. "There's no question that because the population is bigger their breasts are bigger as well, because it's all fatty tissue. "As women get older the amount of fatty tissue increases, and also the proportion of fat increases." Sydney cardiologist Ross Walker said artificial oestrogens found in foods, plastics and cosmetics had also contributed to the growth spurt. Oestrogen in contraceptive pills also spurred the growth of breast tissue, Family Planning NSW research director Edith Weisberg said. "I think the higher-dose pills could, because the oestrogen causes development of the breast tissue," she said. Larger, more cumbersome breasts often discouraged women from exercising, said body-image expert Jenny O'Dea, Associate Professor at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Education and Social Work. Dr O'Dea said that makes it even harder to lose the weight and can lead to further increases in breast size. "One thing I find in my body-image research is that girls and women with large breasts tend to avoid sport and physical activity because it becomes a bit bothersome," she said. "They stopped exercising when they developed large breasts, whereas we want big women to do the complete opposite and be as physically active as they can." Patient Education - 617-244-7591 Your doctor has recommended that you undergo a Cystoscopy. But what does that actually mean? The lower urinary tract allows your body to store and release urine. It's made up of two parts, the bladder and the urethra. Your bladder is a hollow organ that expands as it fills with urine. Because it is made of muscular tissue, it can also contract and force urine to pass out of the body, through the urethra. Your urethra carries urine from the bladder all the way through the opening in the penis. Your doctor feels that it is necessary to examine the interior of the urethra and bladder, to try to determine the cause of a problem that you may be having. Symptoms that may call for a routine Cystoscopy include: * Persistent infection of the urinary tract * Bladder stones * Bleeding while urinating * Irritation due to polyps, or * Changes to the bladder caused by cancer. Cystoscopy is a simple procedure during which your doctor will insert a well-lubricated, instrument called a cystoscope through your urethra and into your bladder. The cystoscope allows your doctor to visually inspect the interior of your bladder. It also allows your doctor to remove small pieces of tissue for later examination and even to crush small bladder stones, should any be present. Any tissue that your doctor removes from your bladder will be sent immediately to a laboratory for analysis. Your doctor will ask the laboratory to check for any sign of cancer or other abnormality. So make sure that you ask your doctor to carefully explain the reasons behind this recommendation. A well-lubricated cystoscope is gently inserted into the urethra, the opening at the head of the penis, and slowly guided inward. When the cystoscope reaches the back of the penis, your doctor will pull the penis downward in order to create a straight path into the bladder. Once the cystoscope is inside the bladder, your doctor will inject a small amount of water through the cystoscope and into the bladder. The water serves to expand the bladder, helping your doctor to better examine the interior. It also helps by washing away any blood or remaining urine. You may feel a sense of fullness as though you need to urinate. You'll be encouraged to relax and not to try to retain the water in your bladder. As the team completes it's inspection, they'll be looking for suspicious tissues. If they find bladder stones, your doctor may try to crush these so that they can pass out of the bladder during normal urination. If the team finds a suspicious growth they will use a special grasping tool to take a sample of tissue in order to send to a laboratory for analysis. When the inspection is complete, your doctor will remove the cystoscope and you'll be asked to empty your bladder. Your doctor will probably ask you to wear a temporary Foley catheter. A Foley catheter is a narrow tube inserted through your urethra and into your bladder. The catheter is connected to a bag that is attached to your leg by a strap. While the Foley catheter is in place, urine will pass from your bladder into the bag. You will not need to urinate into a toilet. The nurse will show you how to change the bag when it is full. An appointment will be made for you to return to the doctor's office in a couple of days to have the catheter removed. As soon as the anesthesia wears off and you feel comfortable, you'll be allowed to leave. Sebaceous Cyst Surgery / Excision Steps A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac under the skin filled with a cheese-like or oily material. There are several sebaceous cysts treatment methods. Generally, the cysts are not painful and harmless; however, infected cysts can be extremely uncomfortable and may hinder the normal daily routine of an individual. The infected cysts may cause the temperature around the bumps to increase and may often appear ghastly and unpleasant. The most common sebaceous cysts treatment is a surgical procedure that involves completing removing the cysts and draining all its contents to avoid recurrence. However, some individuals may have frequently recurring cysts to a certain medical condition. Surgery can be done either using a wide excision technique or the minimal excision technique. The patient is orally administered antibiotics both pre and post-surgery. Treatment of small cysts is done by inserting steroids within the cyst, which will cause the cysts to rupture. Treatment of sebaceous cysts is more often for cosmetic reasons than for medical reasons. Individuals can also treat the smaller and non-infected sebaceous cyst at home. Apply a warm moist piece of cloth on the cyst three to four times a day for three days. At the end of three days, the cyst will rupture and drain out and heal itself. Alternatively, patients can use hot pads as another home sebaceous cysts treatment method.
