Rafi - Haye Tabassum Tera - Nishan [1965] "Nishan" is a 1965 Hindi movie directed by Aspi Irani . The film stars Sanjeev Kumar (in his first lead role), Nazima, Prem Chopra, Helen, Mukri, Sulochna and Shammi. The films music is by Usha Khanna. Lyrics by Javed Anwar............ Mohammed Rafi (Hindi: मोहम्मद रफ़ी, Urdu: محمد رفیع; December 24, 1924 July 31, 1980), often addressed as Rafi Sahib, was an Indian playback singer whose career spanned four decades and is one of the most versatile male singers in the history of Indian cinema. Rafi sang in many Indian languages including Hindi, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada and Telugu. He also recorded English and Persian songs. He is primarily remembered, however, for his Hindi songs, which still remain very popular in India today and also among the Indian diaspora. He dominated the Bollywood music industry from the 1950s to the 1970s along with Mukesh, Manna Dey, and Kishore Kumar. Between 1950 and 1970, Rafi was one of the most sought after singers in Bollywood. In 1965, he was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Sri award. On Thursday, July 31, 1980, Rafi died at 10:50 p.m., following a massive heart attack. His last song was "Shaam phir kyun udaas hai dost" (Aas Paas), which he had recorded with Laxmikant-Pyarelal couple of days before his death. He was survived by four sons (Saeed Rafi, Khalid Rafi, Hamid Rafi, Shahid Rafi), 3 daughters (Parveen, Nasreen, Yasmin) and 18 grandchildren. Naushad wrote on Rafi's Death- " Goonjte hai teri awaz ameero ke mahal me. jhopro ki gharibon me bhi hay tere saaz, yu to apne mousiki par sab ka fakr hota hai magar ay mere saathi mousiki ko bhi aaz tujh paar naaz hai " Rafi's funeral procession was recorded on a very rainy day in Mumbai. A portion of that same recording has been used in one of the Hindi movie released later. It was one of the biggest funeral processions mumbai had ever witnessed, with over 10,000 people attending. The Padma Shri Mohammed Rafi Chowk in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai is named after Rafi. Lata Mangeshkar quotes on Rafi- " saral man ke insan Rafisab, bahut suriley the, yea meri khus kismati hai ke maine unke saath sabse jada gana gaye. gana kaise bhi wo aise ga lete the ke gana na samajhne wale bhi bah bah kar utht te the. Aise gayak bar bar janam nahi lete." A documentary about Rafis life is under production by The Films Division of India. On September 22, 2007 a shrine to Rafi designed by artist Tasawar Bashir was unveiled in Birmingham. Bashir is hoping that Rafi will attain sainthood as a result. Rafi & Geeta Dutt - Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein Ishaara Ho Gaya - C.I.D. [1956] C.I.D. is a 1956 Indian Hindi film. Produced by Guru Dutt, it was directed by Raj Khosla. It stars Dev Anand, Shakila, Johnny Walker, K. N. Singh and Waheeda Rehman. The movie was a crime thriller and has Dev playing a police inspector investigating a case. The music is by O. P. Nayyar. Lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri and Jan Nisar Akhtar. Trivia; * Dev Anand and Guru Dutt were friends when they struggled to get a break in films, and had promised each other that Dev would give Guru Dutt a film to direct (which he did with Baazi) and Guru Dutt would cast Dev as a hero and direct him. As Guru Dutt did not direct C.I.D. he could fulfill only half his promise. * Guru Dutt had spotted Waheeda Rehman in a Telugu movie and cast her in Pyaasa, but gave her a key supporting role in C.I.D. to prepare her for Pyaasa. * Guru Dutt had reportedly gifted Raj Khosla a swanky foreign car after the success of CID. * The choreography of this film was done by Zohra Sehgal-now famous for her 'granny' roles (Veer-Zara, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam, Chini Kum). * The costumes were credited to a Bhanumati, who is better known as Bhanu Athaiya. * Assisting Raj Khosla on CID were Pramod Charavorty and Bhappi Sonie who went on to become successful directors in their own right. * One of the lyricists was Jan Nissar Akhtar, father of Javed Akhtar. * The scriptwriter was Inder Raj Anand, father of actor-filmmaker Tinnu Anand.... Geeta Dutt was born in 1930 into a rich zamindār's family as Geeta Ghosh Roy Chowdhuri in Faridpur, (then in Bengal, India; now in Banglādesh). In 1942, her parents shifted to an apartment in Dādar, Bombay (now Mumbai) when she was twelve. There, composer/music director Hanumān Prasād once overheard her singing casually, and, feeling impressed, he offered to impart her training in singing. He launched her in a chorus song in Bhakta Prahlād (1946), where she sang only two lines. But her rendering of those two lines stood out. The following year, she got a major assignment as a playback singer for Do Bhāi, and her renderings in that movie brought Geeta to the forefront as a top playback singer.... ...Geeta died of cirrhosis of the liver on July 20, 1972....
