Misty - Jazz piano lesson This is a 'trio' version of the ballad 'Misty' - with lots of extra information helpful (I hope) to jazz piano students. At my site at http://web.newsguy.com/dougmck there is a much clearer copy of the video for download, as well as the midi file recorded with the video, and an MP3 file of the bass and brushes backing I recorded separately. The printable transcription (more accurate than the video version above) can be bought from my website ($1.20) and is also on my DVD -http://www.bushgrafts.com/jazz/DVDbuy.htm. There is also a separate and different solo version of the song - the video and printable transcription of the solo version is just on the DVD. Autumn Leaves - Jazz piano trio Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoDJl3vcpgo for a much improved version in HD and Widescreen. Another experiment - this time, I took a jazz trio midi file that I had previously done, and annotated with text comments. Lots of students learn 'Autumn Leaves' as one of the first standards they play, so I thought that this might be a useful source of ideas. It is in the fake book key, and the chord symbols appear above the music. This was imported into the Band in a Box program - this program will read these text 'markers', and it also has quite a flexible notation view. Note that in the notation view the bass and treble clefs don't accurately reflect the Left and Right hand parts. In addition, for those who can't easily sight read music, there is a very big and clear Piano view. I hope that some students might find this useful. I have produced lots of other jazz midi files at http://www.bushgrafts.com/jazz/midi.htm that can be treated in a similar way. A much better quality video is at http://www.bushgrafts.com/jazz/video.htm along with along with a PDF file of the Transcription and a leadsheet and the midi file if you want to try to do this yourself! If you have a fast connection and want to see this in high quality video to see the notes clearly(and the audio in stereo), add the letters &fmt=18 straight after the existing internet address line above. 'All The Things You Are' - new reharmonised version - jazz piano tutorial 'All The Things You Are' - new reharmonised version. Since the 2 previous video lessons on this were among the most viewed of my youtube videos, I thought that I would re-work the reharmonised version. I have made the notation much clearer and more accurate on this. I have got much better at creating playable transcriptions. The software that I use (Power tracks Pro Audio) does have some minor limitations (only one independent voice per clef, no grace notes, sometimes dodgy enharmonic equivalents, etc), but it is very quick compared to other more advanced programs and it has the facility to split the keyboard intelligently into right and left hands.(Finale, Sibelius won't do this). My main purpose behind the notation, however, is to give improvising piano players some improvisational and style options to use in their playing. All three versions are on my website (http://www.bushgrafts.com) and printable transcriptions, backing track are on my DVD (details on the website) Tags: All, Are, Doug, McKenzie, The, Things, You, jazz, new, piano, reharmonised, tutorial, version 1 Downloads - Last from: http://downthisvideo.com/ (Your Blog here!) |

San Francisco - Scott McKenzie "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)" is a song, written by John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas, and sung by Scott McKenzie. It was written and released in June 1967 to promote the Monterey Pop Festival. McKenzie's song became an instant hit. The lyrics tell the listeners, "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair". Due to the difference between the lyrics and the actual title, the title is often quoted as "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)". "San Francisco" reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and was number one in the United Kingdom and most of Europe. The single is purported to have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The song is credited with bringing thousands of young people to San Francisco, California during the late 1960s.[citation needed] In Central Europe, young people adopted "San Francisco" as an anthem for freedom, and it was widely played during Czechoslovakia's 1968 Prague Spring uprising against Soviet rule.[citation needed] The song has been featured in several films, including Frantic, The Rock and Forrest Gump (Wikipedia).
