The king of all asian's is now back in action. The bosses of the European drug cartel meet in the French Riviera to discuss a new threat emerging from Asia. Don (Shahrukh Khan) is jeopardizing their business because he is able to sell drugs at a much lower price to their customers. The bosses send word out that Don must die. Don has been living in Thailand for the past five years and goes to a remote settlement to pick up a shipment of cocaine. Instead of a normal transaction, Don has to fight his way out because the more powerful European dealers want him dead. He then inexplicable goes back to Malaysia where he surrenders to Roma (Priyanka Chopra) and Inspector Malik (Om Puri). Don is sentenced to death and sent to a Malaysian prison where he meets his old rival Vardhaan (Boman Irani). Don and Vardhaan escape the prison by poisoning all the inmates and go to Zurich, Switzerland, where Don meets his girlfriend and trusted companion, Ayesha (Lara Dutta). In Zurich, they retrieve the contents of a locker only Vardhaan could access. The locker holds a tape that shows Diwan (Aly Khan), the vice president of a Euro printing bank called the DZB, bribing someone to kill a competitor. Don blackmails Diwan into giving him the blueprints to the bank so that he can steal the printing plates. Diwan gives him fake information and hires assassins instead. Don manages to escape and forces the assassins to work for him. Diwan, left with no choice, hands over the real information. Don and his new team plan a bank robbery and carry out their plan by taking hostages. After stealing the printing plates, Don is betrayed by Vardhaan and his team but manages to escape. However, one of the members, Sameer (Kunal Kapoor), remains loyal to Don. Following Don's plan, he calls the police and Don is captured. Unable to enter the bank and free the hostages, the police are forced to work with Don to get back into the bank in exchange for immunity in Germany. Don and Roma manage to reach Vardhaan but Roma is shot because she refuses to kill Don when told to do so. This gives an idea that Roma still has soft corner for Don, even though he killed her brother five years ago. Don, Vardhaan and his thugs fight and Don manages to defeat them. He then gets his immunity papers and takes Roma to an ambulance. Don and Roma exchange one glance at each other before the ambulance doors close. He later detonates a bomb he planted earlier in Diwan's car. It is revealed that Don actually still has one of the money plates, which the police believe is destroyed in the explosion that kills Diwan. The police cannot do anything as Don has immunity and do not know that Don has a plate. Don also gives the police a disc of all his associates but it is really a disc with the names of the European drug cartel. This film celebrates Lady Gaga's special and unmediated relationship with her fans, the Little Monsters. The making of this film is a demonstration of the power of the web in its own right. The entire project, beginning with Lady Gaga's shoot in NYC on May 8th, to shipping materials to the television networks for air, took 10 days. Within hours of the release of her new single "Edge of Glory" on May 9th, fans began uploading videos on YouTube, making the song their own by dancing to it, singing it and playing it on all kinds of instruments. Lady Gaga then posted a message on her website asking for more videos to be used in the film project. Fans responded within minutes and uploaded hundreds more videos. Back in the editing room, in real time as fan videos streamed in, editors were putting them into the film. The film was completed on May 18th in time to air during Lady Gaga's performance on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, and to also live on the web. A long changelog and a few screenshots are great, but we've fired up the SDK's emulator for a guided tour of Android's salient features. 0:02: Main menu is contained in a drawer that slides from the bottom of the screen 0:08: Multiple home screens can be flipped with touch gestures, a la the iPhone 0:20: Icons can be dragged from the main menu to build customized home screens. Dragging to the menu drawer trashes the home screen shortcut 0:38: Dialer screen, followed by the call behavior. Calls can continue in the background, and all functions that don't require data transfer can work concurrently (This is currently a software regulation, as 3g networks should theoretically allow for simultaneous voice and data usage). 0:53: Ongoing calls and other notifications can be accessed by dragging the taskbar down. 1:20: Browser displays Gizmodo. Rendering is quite good, page navigation is a fairly intuitive rehash of current touch-control schemes. It's not terrible good at guessing column widths during double-tap zooming, but seems very usable. Preview magnification feature is useful for smaller screens or text-heavy pages. 2:22: "Tabbed" browsing feature lays out a grid of pages, with previews 2:45: Google Maps app. As you can see, this is among the more polished apps, and will feel familiar to anyone who has used Google Maps on the desktop or mobile devices. 3:30: Google Maps Street View. 4:00: Home screen include widgets (Google Search, a clock and a picture frame are the only ones for now) that can be dragged around the home screen(s). 4:23: The music apps relies on a panel of icons (a recurring theme in Android) 4:30: Message composition is unremarkable, but there is no sign of an on-screen keyboard at the moment. This could be a customization catered the the first round of Android phones, at least one of which will have a slide-out keyboard. 5:12: The camera naturally doesn't work in the emulator, but there are currently very few options in its menus. 5:50: Wallpaper switching. This is one of the few areas where Android excels aesthetically. Wallpaper scrolls as home screens are switched, but at a slower rate that the icons. This creates a convincing illusion of depth. 6:11: The home screen can also be modified via the system menu, where you can choose to add applications, widgets and shortcuts, as well as change the wallpaper. It's hard to pass judgement on Android in the condition it's in. What's there is impressive, but there are so many glaring omissions, at least from a consumer standpoint. There is a fantastic system for managing ongoing calls and system messages (via the pull-down taskbar) but no apps to take advantage of it. Email and IM would suit such a configuration beautifully, but neither is included in this release. And seriously, where is the calendar? The organizer? A video app? Youtube support? Sure, these things could be left to the developer community, but Google already has messaging, email, video and calendar services, so it's reasonable to expect that they be included by default in Android. Before a public release, Android should at least posses a feature set comparable to your average candy bar phone, courtesy of Google, so that the eager open-source development community can devote their effort to creating new, innovative apps and modifications for the OS. Objections aside, the progress is promising. In terms of usability, Android is much easier to navigate and customize than virtually all other mobile solutions. With a few more apps, Android will be a clear choice over Windows Mobile, skinned or not. You can download the SDK and play with the emulator yourself, if you want. The king of all asian's is now back in action. The bosses of the European drug cartel meet in the French Riviera to discuss a new threat emerging from Asia. Don (Shahrukh Khan) is jeopardizing their business because he is able to sell drugs at a much lower price to their customers. The bosses send word out that Don must die. Don has been living in Thailand for the past five years and goes to a remote settlement to pick up a shipment of cocaine. Instead of a normal transaction, Don has to fight his way out because the more powerful European dealers want him dead. He then inexplicable goes back to Malaysia where he surrenders to Roma (Priyanka Chopra) and Inspector Malik (Om Puri). Don is sentenced to death and sent to a Malaysian prison where he meets his old rival Vardhaan (Boman Irani). Don and Vardhaan escape the prison by poisoning all the inmates and go to Zurich, Switzerland, where Don meets his girlfriend and trusted companion, Ayesha (Lara Dutta). In Zurich, they retrieve the contents of a locker only Vardhaan could access. The locker holds a tape that shows Diwan (Aly Khan), the vice president of a Euro printing bank called the DZB, bribing someone to kill a competitor. Don blackmails Diwan into giving him the blueprints to the bank so that he can steal the printing plates. Diwan gives him fake information and hires assassins instead. Don manages to escape and forces the assassins to work for him. Diwan, left with no choice, hands over the real information. Don and his new team plan a bank robbery and carry out their plan by taking hostages. After stealing the printing plates, Don is betrayed by Vardhaan and his team but manages to escape. However, one of the members, Sameer (Kunal Kapoor), remains loyal to Don. Following Don's plan, he calls the police and Don is captured. Unable to enter the bank and free the hostages, the police are forced to work with Don to get back into the bank in exchange for immunity in Germany. Don and Roma manage to reach Vardhaan but Roma is shot because she refuses to kill Don when told to do so. This gives an idea that Roma still has soft corner for Don, even though he killed her brother five years ago. Don, Vardhaan and his thugs fight and Don manages to defeat them. He then gets his immunity papers and takes Roma to an ambulance. Don and Roma exchange one glance at each other before the ambulance doors close. He later detonates a bomb he planted earlier in Diwan's car. It is revealed that Don actually still has one of the money plates, which the police believe is destroyed in the explosion that kills Diwan. The police cannot do anything as Don has immunity and do not know that Don has a plate. Don also gives the police a disc of all his associates but it is really a disc with the names of the European drug cartel. This film celebrates Lady Gaga's special and unmediated relationship with her fans, the Little Monsters. The making of this film is a demonstration of the power of the web in its own right. The entire project, beginning with Lady Gaga's shoot in NYC on May 8th, to shipping materials to the television networks for air, took 10 days. Within hours of the release of her new single "Edge of Glory" on May 9th, fans began uploading videos on YouTube, making the song their own by dancing to it, singing it and playing it on all kinds of instruments. Lady Gaga then posted a message on her website asking for more videos to be used in the film project. Fans responded within minutes and uploaded hundreds more videos. Back in the editing room, in real time as fan videos streamed in, editors were putting them into the film. The film was completed on May 18th in time to air during Lady Gaga's performance on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, and to also live on the web. A long changelog and a few screenshots are great, but we've fired up the SDK's emulator for a guided tour of Android's salient features. 0:02: Main menu is contained in a drawer that slides from the bottom of the screen 0:08: Multiple home screens can be flipped with touch gestures, a la the iPhone 0:20: Icons can be dragged from the main menu to build customized home screens. Dragging to the menu drawer trashes the home screen shortcut 0:38: Dialer screen, followed by the call behavior. Calls can continue in the background, and all functions that don't require data transfer can work concurrently (This is currently a software regulation, as 3g networks should theoretically allow for simultaneous voice and data usage). 0:53: Ongoing calls and other notifications can be accessed by dragging the taskbar down. 1:20: Browser displays Gizmodo. Rendering is quite good, page navigation is a fairly intuitive rehash of current touch-control schemes. It's not terrible good at guessing column widths during double-tap zooming, but seems very usable. Preview magnification feature is useful for smaller screens or text-heavy pages. 2:22: "Tabbed" browsing feature lays out a grid of pages, with previews 2:45: Google Maps app. As you can see, this is among the more polished apps, and will feel familiar to anyone who has used Google Maps on the desktop or mobile devices. 3:30: Google Maps Street View. 4:00: Home screen include widgets (Google Search, a clock and a picture frame are the only ones for now) that can be dragged around the home screen(s). 4:23: The music apps relies on a panel of icons (a recurring theme in Android) 4:30: Message composition is unremarkable, but there is no sign of an on-screen keyboard at the moment. This could be a customization catered the the first round of Android phones, at least one of which will have a slide-out keyboard. 5:12: The camera naturally doesn't work in the emulator, but there are currently very few options in its menus. 5:50: Wallpaper switching. This is one of the few areas where Android excels aesthetically. Wallpaper scrolls as home screens are switched, but at a slower rate that the icons. This creates a convincing illusion of depth. 6:11: The home screen can also be modified via the system menu, where you can choose to add applications, widgets and shortcuts, as well as change the wallpaper. It's hard to pass judgement on Android in the condition it's in. What's there is impressive, but there are so many glaring omissions, at least from a consumer standpoint. There is a fantastic system for managing ongoing calls and system messages (via the pull-down taskbar) but no apps to take advantage of it. Email and IM would suit such a configuration beautifully, but neither is included in this release. And seriously, where is the calendar? The organizer? A video app? Youtube support? Sure, these things could be left to the developer community, but Google already has messaging, email, video and calendar services, so it's reasonable to expect that they be included by default in Android. Before a public release, Android should at least posses a feature set comparable to your average candy bar phone, courtesy of Google, so that the eager open-source development community can devote their effort to creating new, innovative apps and modifications for the OS. Objections aside, the progress is promising. In terms of usability, Android is much easier to navigate and customize than virtually all other mobile solutions. With a few more apps, Android will be a clear choice over Windows Mobile, skinned or not. You can download the SDK and play with the emulator yourself, if you want. Like Bank of America's "Keep the Change" program, with every (participating) bank card purchase made, the purchase amount is rounded up to the nearest dollar, and the change is transferred into a "savings" account. Through "Hungry for Change", however, the change will, instead, be transferred as a MICRO LOAN, NOT a donation, to an account used to buy school lunches for starving children in the developing world. According to the United Nations' World Food Programme, "Every five seconds, a child dies of hunger." Through "Hungry for Change", YOUR CHANGE literally SAVES LIVES. FOREVER. "Hungry for Change" links two simple, innovative, profound ideas to create one world-changing solution, with the potential to impact millions of lives--immediately and permanently. "Hungry for Change" participants will "effortlessly" lend their "spare change" as "Grameencredits" (via Grameen Bank), and in the process, feed children in the developing world through school-based lunch programs. HfC makes giving effortless, automatic, affordable (to everyone), and sustainable. "Hungry for Change" will link the "savings" program to an initiative like the WFP's "Fill the Cup", which for 25 US cents, provides a hungry child with a school-based meal of rice, beans or porridge. "Hungry for Change" makes it easy and effortless to give back to the world's children, by lending all, or a portion of your savings, to help permanently eradicate extreme poverty & hunger, and to help achieve universal primary education. The WFP states the problem clearly: Our planet produces enough food for every man, woman, and child to live healthy and productive lives. Yet, over 300 million of the world's children suffer needlessly from chronic hunger. With an average annual savings of only $300, every Hungry for Change participant could feed six school children for an entire year. Over time, with the help of its strategic partners like Grameen Bank, "Hungry for Change" will grow to include financial (& other) institutions around the world, and in just a few short years, impact the lives of millions of children and families.
