Lola + Bilidikid (1999) - Movie Trailer Lola + Bilidikid (Lola and Billy the Kid) written and directed by the dynamic E. Kutlug Ataman is an immensely interesting view of the lives of Turks in Berlin. The many characters introduced at a seemingly random fashion all are woven in the loom of Ataman, becoming one connected tapestry of ethnic clashes, humor, drama, and intensely moving views of family and love. From the quiet moments at the beginning to the unexpected ending this film dazzles with color, music, highly developed character development by some fine actors, and edge of the seat tension. The Turkish subculture in Berlin is the hotbed for trouble between Turks and Germans. Add to this setting the fact that the film deals with the taboos of gay life, transgender and transvestite men, and the concomitant stresses of families who deal with these issues on a daily basis and the result is a film full of richly detailed stories. Lola (Gandi Mukli), a Turkish drag queen has a lover Billy the Kid (Erdal Yildiz), a macho, closeted Turk who views his role as the Man and Lola as the woman and encourages Lola to have gender altering surgery so they can live as husband and wife back in Turkey. Murat (Baki Davrak) is Lola's baby brother, also gay, living with his mother and older brother, Osman (Hasan Ali Mete) who disowned Lola for his proclivities. After 15 years Lola returns home to demand his inheritance share to proceed with his sex change and reunites with Murat eventually revealing murky family secrets: the results are tragic to all involved. This is the main story of the film. But there are many others! There is a fascinating relationship between another Turk Iskender (Murat Yilmaz) who is picked up by an older elegant German Friedrich (Michael Gerber) whose affair meets with challenges from his aged but grand mother Ute (a marvelous Inge Keller!). And there is the gay bashing drama between young German lads and the Turks which instead of being simply an evil tragedy is a character study of why gay bashing occurs: the main perpetrator is ambivalent about his own sexuality and the way this story plays out is both gruesome and heartbreaking. Yes, there are other side stories but suffice it to say that Ataman has created a film mesmerizing in content and production. It is one of those films that pleads to be watched again after the various stories have been told: knowledge of the ending events is yet more potent the second time around. Recommended for lovers of art films. In German with subtitles. It was directed by Rajkumar Kohli. Synopsis: JDivya (Manisha Koirala) and Karan Saxena (Sunny Deol) are in love and plan to marry, after Karan goes to London for some business opportunity. Karan has a younger stepbrother, Vivek Saxena (Sonu Nigam) who he carefully looks after as though he were his own brother. Divya and Vivek hang out with quite a few young people of their own age, Atul (Akshay Kumar), Vijay (Suniel Shetty), Prem (Aftab Shivdasani), Ashok (Aditya Pancholi), Nita (Rambha), Rashmi (Kiran Rathod), Niki (Upasna Singh), and Priti (Nikita), just to name a few. Two male members (Rajat Bedi & Siddharth) try to sexually molest Divya, and get a sound thrashing from Karan. After apologizing, these two members decide to avenge their beating and humiliation. After entrapping Divya, they sexually molest her to such an extent that Divya attempts to kill herself. Unknown to Divya, she was the lover of Kapil (Arman Kohli), a snake with magical powers, in a previous life. Their love life was shattered by an angry sage who cursed them with separation until the 21st century. Divya, who was called Vasundhara in her previous life, dies after this curse, and is reborn as Divya. Now seeing Divya dying, Kapil swears to avenge her death by killing them one by one. Divya does die, but her spirit has survived and joins Kapil to avenge her humiliation and death, not against the two members, but against all the male members. Soon death visits the friends one by one, and no one can stop the killing. Until one fine day Karan returns from London only to find that Divya is no more alive and that his brother is wanted by Divya and Kapil in connection with Divya's murder but Karan assure to everyone that anyone who touches his brother will not remain alive. Ayyaa Ayyaa is a kind hearted human being. The story opens in the year 1971 when the whole of Tamil Nadu is under the clutches of famine. Ayyaa and his friend Madasami go to the MLA of their constituency, however the MLA refuses to help them out and moreover he smuggles the load of foodgrains sent by the centre for the sake of the villagers. When the villagers come to know about it they attack the MLA's consignment and in the ensuing fight the MLA gets killed by Ayyaa. The villagers together take the blame on themselves and save Ayyaa, but Ayyaa being a good human being carries the guilt all along his life. In the following Assembly election they force Ayyaa to contest the election, Ayyaa wins and stays put as an independent MLA for the next 34 years. However the MLA's son Karupusami is out to avenge his fathers death. He keeps on contesting against Ayyaa in the elections and keeps on trying to kill him for 18 years unsuccessfully. Will Karupusami succeed in killing Ayyaa? Will Karupusami's evil intentions win over Ayyaa's goodness? Watch and find out.
