Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva of Compassion in the Lotus Sutra became known as Kuan Yin. (1) The Great Compassion Mantra (2) The Mantra of Universal Protection - "Om Mani Padme Hum" (3) "Namo Amitabha Buddha". (Kuan Yin Bodhisattva and Great Strength Bodhisattva are Amitabha Buddha's disciples and they have both made vows to help him propagate the Dharma. When we recite Amitabha Buddha's name, Kuan Yin Bodhisattva coms to our aid and sprinkles sweet dew on top of our heads, while Great Strength Bodhisattva's brilliance illuminates us. 2. Buddhists should practise the Kuan Yin recitals daily and try to develop the quality of Compassion in themselves. They should not recite these recitals only when they face difficul- ties, problems and experience fear. 3. When reciting, our minds are free from other forms of false thinking and also the three mental poisons of greed, hatred and ignorance. As a result, we will have calmness and concentra- tion which then gives rise to wisdom to discern clearly between good and evil. 4. In addition to the recitals, one should follow these rules, in order to purge our mind, speech and actions of impurities:- 1. To abstain from killing 2. To abstain from stealing 3. To abstain from sexual misconduct 4. To abstain from false speech 5. To abstain from intoxicants and alcoholic drinks ~~~~ - pronounciation to follow the chant - 1. Islamic Crusades 4: Lessons From the Thai Jihad

NOTE: WHY DO I USE THE WORD "CRUSADE"? In the two years since I posted this series I have received messages from many Christians stating that they are offended by the word "crusade" (a derivation of "cross") being associated with Islamic violence. I chose to use that word because The Crusades are something that most in the post-modern, politically correct West recognize as "evil." Many westerners are still not acquainted with the real meaning of words like "jihad," "shariah," "dhimmis", etc. Hopefully in 2010 more people DO understand the true meaning of those words. In short, I chose the word "crusades" to highlight that Christians were not the only ones who fought religious wars of conquest. My intention was not to insult Christianity. Christianity is a religion of peace that is sometimes used by extremists to justify violence. Islam is a religion of war. I pray for the day when these videos are no longer needed. Until that day I will keep the name "Islamic Crusades." *For complete links/references/commentary visit the Occidental Soapbox blog*: http://occidentalsoapbox.blogspot.com/2008/10/islamic-crusades-episode-4-lessons-from.html I created the Islamic Crusades series to provide a counterpoint to the Christian Crusades. My goal was to remind a self-loathing West that our alleged sins are not to blame for the Islamic aggression we see today. Thus far I have covered episodes in the Middle Ages that took place parallel to the Crusades, in which Muslims embarked upon Jihad and committed atrocities against Christians, Jews, and Zoroastrians. A second means to the same conclusion is to expose situations in which Muslims are in conflict with non-Western peoples. These conflicts have nothing to do with the baggage of Christianity, the Crusades, European colonialism or any other canard that apologists cite to excuse Muslim violence against the West, yet they unfold in much the same way. *WARNING*: The following link contains graphic images from the Jihad in Thailand. In My View: Vietnam's Buddhist Monk Thich Quang Do -20Dec07

At 80 years old, Buddhist Monk Thich Quang Do is one of Vietnam's most prominent dissidents. Deputy leader of the outlawed Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam, he's spent more than 25 years in detention for advocating greater religious freedoms and rights. Now in tapes smuggled out of Vietnam, Thich Quang Do talks of life beyond the glossy tourist brochures to reveal a darker side of communist Vietnam.
