Yep. 82 years ago today, November 18, 1928, Walt Disney's "first" star, Mickey Mouse made his theatrical debut in "Steamboat Willie", the first-ever synchronized sound cartoon, at the Broadway theater in New York City. So to celebrate the birthday of everyone's favorite mouse, this is a special newly recorded soundtrack to the opening of "Steamboat Willie." (Introduced by Walt Disney, himself), then as the music ends, Walt introduces "The Skeleton Dance", the first Silly Symphony cartoon. This is from the Disneyland episode, "The Story of the Animated Drawing", originally aired on ABC in 1955. It is available on Walt Disney Treasures: Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studio. Why I put "first" in quotation marks is because Mickey was NOT Walt's first star. We had Alice, then Oswald, THEN Mickey. Mickey was Walt's first HUGE star, but not his absolute first. Enjoy!
