Founded in 1988 as a quintet which originally included Marc Nelson, Boyz II Men found fame as a quartet, with members Nathan Morris, Michael McCary, Shawn Stockman, and Wanya Morris, on Motown Records during the early 1990s. Nelson left the group before their first recording to pursue a solo career. Boyz II Men's first album, Cooleyhighharmony, was released on Motown in 1991, executive produced by Michael Bivins. Cooleyhighharmony's drum-heavy new jack swing sound and multi-layered sampled backdrops were similar to that of Bell Biv DeVoe's own work, but featured smooth classic-soul styled vocals in place of BBD's rapping and brassier singing. The influences of the group were felt and heard across throughout the R&B world, with several R&B competitors showing obvious inspiration from Boyz II Men's work and singing style, among them, Shai, Soul for Real, BLACKstreet, All 4 One, and later Dru Hill, Jagged Edge, and (featuring old Boyz II Men member Marc Nelson) Az Yet. Boyz II Men's closest competitor, Uptown Records act Jodeci, were, with their grittier and more sexually charged style, the polar opposite of Boyz II Men's wholesomeness. Jodeci's style had its own followers (many of them, Dru Hill and Jagged Edge in particular, they shared with Boyz II Men), but their influence on the music industry as a whole was not as widespread as that of Boyz II Men. Based on sales, Boyz II Men is the most successful R&B male vocal group of all time. They recorded five #1 R&B hits between 1992 and 1997 and have sold more than 60 million records. Three of its #1 hits, "End of the Road", "I'll Make Love to You", and "One Sweet Day" (with Mariah Carey), set and broke records for the longest period of time a single remained at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100; the last of them still holds the record. Although "On Bended Knee" did not break any records, it was still an immensely popular song that reached #1 and made Boyz II Men the second artist (behind The Beatles) to replace themselves at the number one spot of the Billboard Hot 100. Es hijo de Catalina, una mujer con ascendencia de Jamaica y Trinidad, su padre, Víctor es de raíces colombianas. Tiene 5 hermanos y 5 hermanas. A los 12 años, Edgardo empezó a escribir canciones inspirado en la situación social de su barrio y sus propias vivencias, les añadía melodías y luego las grababa en cassettes, que después distribuía a los conductores de transporte colectivo para que los pusieran, en sus rutas, y así llevar su mensaje a la comunidad. El éxito de Edgardo Franco, deja atrás aquellos días de pobreza en su natal barrio de Río Abajo, en la capital panameña cuando era vendedor de refrescos en los conciertos de la ciudad de Panamá y soñaba con estar en los escenarios. En 1985 Edgardo viajó a Estados Unidos para reunirse con su madre, quien había emigrado unos años antes. Una vez en la Nueva York, asistió a la Academia de Arte y Música Erasmus Hall en Brooklyn, donde se destacó como Presidente del Club Latino y también asistía a sus compañeros con las clases de matemática hasta que se graduó en 1987. Un año después, en 1988, se reencontró con amigos de infancia quienes lo animaron a volver a escribir canciones, de hecho, uno de ellos que estaba en la armada le dio su primer uniforme, y desde ese momento adoptó la identidad que lo ha caracterizado en el mundo artístico, El General. Posteriormente, un productor jamaicano le ofreció grabarle su primer tema, "Tu Pum Pum" en español pero lanzado al mercado anglo. Desde entonces, su sueño se convirtió en realidad, cosechando una legión de admiradores que lo siguen por Latinoamérica, Europa, Estados Unidos, Japón y hasta en Beijing, China. The influences of the group were felt and heard across throughout the R&B world, with several R&B competitors showing obvious inspiration from Boyz II Men's work and singing style, among them, Shai, Soul for Real, BLACKstreet, All 4 One, and later Dru Hill, Jagged Edge, and (featuring old Boyz II Men member Marc Nelson) Az Yet. Boyz II Men's closest competitor, Uptown Records act Jodeci, were, with their grittier and more sexually charged style, the polar opposite of Boyz II Men's wholesomeness. Jodeci's style had its own followers (many of them, Dru Hill and Jagged Edge in particular, they shared with Boyz II Men), but their influence on the music industry as a whole was not as widespread as that of Boyz II Men. Based on sales, Boyz II Men is the most successful R&B male vocal group of all time. They recorded five #1 R&B hits between 1992 and 1997 and have sold more than 60 million records. Three of its #1 hits, "End of the Road", "I'll Make Love to You", and "One Sweet Day" (with Mariah Carey), set and broke records for the longest period of time a single remained at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100; the last of them still holds the record. Although "On Bended Knee" did not break any records, it was still an immensely popular song that reached #1 and made Boyz II Men the second artist (behind The Beatles) to replace themselves at the number one spot of the Billboard Hot 100. Es hijo de Catalina, una mujer con ascendencia de Jamaica y Trinidad, su padre, Víctor es de raíces colombianas. Tiene 5 hermanos y 5 hermanas. A los 12 años, Edgardo empezó a escribir canciones inspirado en la situación social de su barrio y sus propias vivencias, les añadía melodías y luego las grababa en cassettes, que después distribuía a los conductores de transporte colectivo para que los pusieran, en sus rutas, y así llevar su mensaje a la comunidad. El éxito de Edgardo Franco, deja atrás aquellos días de pobreza en su natal barrio de Río Abajo, en la capital panameña cuando era vendedor de refrescos en los conciertos de la ciudad de Panamá y soñaba con estar en los escenarios. En 1985 Edgardo viajó a Estados Unidos para reunirse con su madre, quien había emigrado unos años antes. Una vez en la Nueva York, asistió a la Academia de Arte y Música Erasmus Hall en Brooklyn, donde se destacó como Presidente del Club Latino y también asistía a sus compañeros con las clases de matemática hasta que se graduó en 1987. Un año después, en 1988, se reencontró con amigos de infancia quienes lo animaron a volver a escribir canciones, de hecho, uno de ellos que estaba en la armada le dio su primer uniforme, y desde ese momento adoptó la identidad que lo ha caracterizado en el mundo artístico, El General. Posteriormente, un productor jamaicano le ofreció grabarle su primer tema, "Tu Pum Pum" en español pero lanzado al mercado anglo. Desde entonces, su sueño se convirtió en realidad, cosechando una legión de admiradores que lo siguen por Latinoamérica, Europa, Estados Unidos, Japón y hasta en Beijing, China.
