Fred Astaire - Puttin' On The Ritz, 1930 Fred Astaire - Puttin' On The Ritz (I.Berlin), Columbia 1930 NOTE: Although Irving Berlin's 1930 song was originally written for vaudevillian Harry Richman, it has become indelibly associated with Astaire, who also recorded it for Columbia in 1930. Sixteen years later he would record the song once more, performing it in the film Blue Skies. This song is an excellent example of the equivocal nature of popular culture during the Depression. While the lyrics speak of the "well-to-do" and seem to celebrate decadence, the lines "watch them spend their last two bits/puttin' on that Ritz" suggest the despair and nihilism of the era. Neon Bugler font movie To learn more about this font and how to purchase it, visit http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/breauhare/neon-bugler/ This is a short animation demo clip for Neon Bugler, a font designed by Harry Warren of breauhare fonts, based on the third logo he created in early 1975 for his sixth grade class newsletter, The Broadwater Bugler, at Broadwater Academy in Exmore, Virginia, on Virginia's Eastern Shore. This font design has these principles as its parameters: The letters generally follow what would be natural stroke directions; no sharp corners, all gentle turns; no lines back up over each other, cross each other, or run into each other. All of this civility between the lines produces an unintentional but welcome neon quality about it. This font can have a variety of vibes depending on its context--it has a certain nostalgia to it, yet it also has a slick, clean, futuristic look. It can even be used in a semi-grunge setting. This is a very versatile font! This font was digitized by John Bomparte. Thanks so much to David Smouha, a.k.a. Smooee, of www.design2.tv for creating this videoclip! El Manisero (ThePeanut Vendor)-Havana Casino Orch-1930 Don Azpiazu introduced authentic Cuban dance music to US audiences when his Havana Casino Orchestra travelled to New York to cut EL MANISERO "The Peanut Vendor" for Victor Records in 1930. The record started a rumba craze which lasted until the 1940s although the record is technically not a rumba. The catchy song became one of the biggest selling Cuban hits in history. Azpiazu had star musicians Julio Cueva (trumpet), Mario Bauza (Sax), and singer Antonio Machin in his group. He also used American singers such as Chick Bullock to help popularize his music and paved the way for later bands such as Xavier Cugat and Desi Arnaz. El Manisero , The Peanut Vendor, is based on a street "pregon" or shout. The song has been recorded at least 150 times by musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Red Nichols and the California Ramblers to name but a few, and has sold over a million copies of sheet music for the EB Marks Co. The song was first recorded by Rita Montaner for Columbia in 1928. The music was composed by Moises Simons, the Cuban son of a Basque musician. The royalties from this one song made Simons a wealthy man. Peanut Vendor was a million seller for Victor, was the number 1 song of 1931, and was the first million selling Cuban 78 record. In Cuba, each merry maid, wakes up to this serenade Peanuts-they're nice and hot, peanuts-I sell a lot If you haven't got bananas, don't be blue Peanuts in a little bag are calling you If you're looking for an early morning treat Get some double jointed peanuts-good to eat A merry twinkle in his eye He's got a way that makes you buy. English words by Marion Sunshine and Wolfe Gilbert-Spanish words by Moises Simons. Ella Fitzgerald - Night and Day (w/ lyrics) Ella Fitzgerald - Night and Day Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom When the jungle shadows fall Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock As it stands against the wall Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops When the summer shower is through So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you Night and day, you are the one Only you beneath the moon and under the sun Whether near to me, or far It's no matter darling where you are I think of you Night and day, day and night, why is it so That this longing for you follows wherever I go In the roaring traffic's boom In the silence of my lonely room I think of you Night and day, Night and day Under the hide of me There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me And its torment won't be through 'Til you let me spend my life making love to you Day and night, night and day Tags: 1930s, 1940s, 1983, Acapella, Booby, Cole, Diva, Divas, Duet, Duetos, Ella, First, Fitzgerald, Grandes, Hebb, Japan, Jazz, Jones, Lady, Live, Oldies, Porter, Song, Songbook, Sunny, Tom, Vocal, aeroerick88, america, and, best, billie, book, classic, cover, day, ever, great, greatest, holiday, incredible, night, of, on, performance, sarah, singer, the, vaughan, verve 1 Downloads - Last from: (Your Blog here!) |
